In the studio
Emily Millichip is the owner and designer behind her self-named fashion and homeware label. She runs her seaside design studio in Portobello, Edinburgh. Emily designs and makes everything in-house with a small team of local seamstresses.
A firm supporter of slow fashion, Emily uses quality fabrics sourced from around the world. She incorporates traditional craft techniques into many of her designs, both to create heritage pieces you will love for years to come, and to preserve the use of these soulful techniques within modern design.
To reduce textile waste, everything is handmade to order. Patterns are drafted to ensure as much of the fabric is used as possible, and offcuts are reworked into regular zero waste collections.
She is inspired by the constantly changing sea and skies of the landscape around her. This celebration of a nature runs throughout her work. A lover of vibrant prints and colour, she believes that good design should bring us joy, and be fun as well as sustainable.
